Program Officer, Office of Special Initiatives, National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS)

Dr. Christine Happel is a program officer at the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS) in the Office of Special Initiatives. Dr. Happel oversees the NIH Common Fund’s Extracellular RNA Communication program and the RADx-rad Exosome-based Non-traditional Technologies Toward Multi-Parametric and Integrated Approaches for SARS-CoV-2 program.

She is also the scientific lead for NCATS small business programs in the area of extracellular vesicles and exRNA. Prior to joining NCATS in 2019, Happel worked at Thermo Fisher Scientific where she served as the Assistant Project Director for the NIH AIDS Reagent Program. She completed postdoctoral fellowships at Johns Hopkins University and at the National Cancer. Dr. Happel received her doctorate in molecular biology and genetics from the Temple University School of Medicine.
