Kirsi Rilla, PhD

Associate Professor of Cell Biology and group leader, Institute of Biomedicine, University of Eastern Finland.

Kirsi Rilla, PhD, Associate professor of Cell Biology, Institute of Biomedicine, University of Eastern Finland. Dr Rilla has a long history on the biology of the extracellular matrix, especially hyaluronan, and her groups pioneering finding on hyaluronan-coated EVs is internationally well-recognized. The current focus of her team is to understand the biogenesis of EVs and their interactions with the extracellular matrix and target cells, with special interest to utilize the unique properties of hyaluronan and its specific interactions with CD44 to engineer and exploit EVs as future vehicles of therapy. She is one of the PIs of the GeneCellNano Academy of Finland Flagship consortium which aims to develop technology platforms for local and controlled delivery of biologicals including EVs for cell-specific delivery properties.
