Bilal Mateen is a clinical-academic; he splits his time between his clinical commitments at King’s College Hospital (KCH), and the Wellcome Trust where he’s leads the digital technology funding portfolio. He also holds an honorary professorial appointment at University College London’s Institute of Health Informatics, where his research is largely focused on applications of data science and machine learning in a variety of clinical settings.
Bilal’s work at Wellcome is focused on funding digital public goods & infrastructure, policy, and training that underpin health and science research possible – from the first ever RCT of a climate-informed early warning system for dengue to supporting the UK regulatory address the gap in software-as-a-medical device regulation for mental health-specific technologies.
