Elena is Senior Research Manager in Wellcome’s Mental Health Translation team and leads the development of Wellcome’s digital mental health portfolio. Her role involves analysing the innovations landscape in the fields of diagnostics, prognostics, and therapeutics to identify new areas for investment in depression, anxiety and psychosis. Previously Elena managed Wellcome’s Population Health research portfolio. During this time, she led several strategic initiatives including the Joint Global Health Trials and advanced Wellcome’s work on innovative trial designs.
She is a developmental psychologist with a special interest in maternal mental health and early child development. Her academic work mainly took place in the UK, South Africa, and Brazil. She was the recipient of an ESRC fellowship and holds a PhD in Psychiatry from Oxford University.
