Anna Wedell, MD, PhD, Professor at Karolinska Institutet and Senior Consultant at the Centre for Inherited Metabolic Diseases

Anna Wedell, MD, PhD, is a Professor at Karolinska Institutet and Senior Consultant at the Centre for Inherited Metabolic Diseases, Karolinska University Hospital. Between 2010 and 2013 she was Clinical Director at the Science for Life Laboratory (SciLifeLab) in Stockholm. In close collaboration between the Clinical Genomics facility at SciLifeLab and Karolinska University Hospital, she led the clinical implementation of whole genome sequencing into healthcare for diagnosis of rare inherited diseases. This formed the basis of the Genomic Medicine Center Karolinska (GMCK), which is a node of the national GMS project.

She has recently been appointed Director of the newly established Precision Medicine Center Karolinska, an academic-clinical partnership aiming to facilitate implementation of precision medicine into healthcare. Wedell is a member of the Nobel Committee for Physiology or Medicine and the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences.
