Bengt Persson is Professor of bioinformatics at Uppsala University, Director of NBIS (National Bioinformatics Infrastructure Sweden, the SciLifeLab Bioinformatics platform), and Head of Node ELIXIR-SE.

He is engaged in the European 1+ Million Genome Project and co-leads the WG-5 aiming at establishing an infrastructure for genomics data, enabling secure and controlled access across Europe. He is also involved in several other ELIXIR-related EU projects.
