Dr. Markus Perola MD, PhD

Dr. Markus Perola MD, PhD, is a Research Professor at the Finnish Institute of Health and Welfare (THL), Finland. He is leading a research team focusing on the genomics and other omics in relevance to common human traits and personalised medicine. He also is the Chief Scientific Officer of the THL biobank, the largest population-based biobank in Finland. He is the vice-director of the Clinical and Molecular Metabolism Research Program, Faculty of Medicine, University of Helsinki.

He is the Academic Chair of the FinnGen Study Steering Committee and the PI of the P6-Genomics to Healthcare, FinRegistry and COVIDprog – studies. He is the Chair of the Ethical Board of the Helsinki University hospital and a member of European Society of Human Genetics Public and Professional Policy Committee. His publication list includes over 400 original articles, and he is listed in the Clarivate Analytics Highly Cited Scientists. Dr. Perola is also a Consultant in Public Health Medicine and a practicing physician in the HUS Helsinki University Hospital.
