Hege G. Russnes is a medical doctor trained in surgical and molecular pathology. She is head of Section for Experimental Pathology and research Support at Dept. of Pathology, Oslo University Hospital combined with being a research group leader at Dept. of Cancer Genetics, Institute for Cancer Research and adjunct Professor at the Institute of Clinical Medicine, University of Oslo. Her main research interest has been molecular analyses of breast cancer, focusing on molecular based classifications. From 2010 she had a post doc fellowship (including 18 months at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute/Harvard Medical School) focusing on intra-tumor heterogeneity in breast cancer.

Her research group has a focus on molecular studies of breast cancer using multidimensional analyses with a special focus on gene expression analyses, DNA sequencing and protein characterization to improve a molecular based classification and thus prognostication, treatment prediction and follow-up, see details at: http://ous-research.no/russnes/.  She is also involved in several clinical trials where molecular diagnostic test are crucial, including being a member of the Trial Management Committee in the National precision medicine trial IMPRESS-Norway (responsible for the trial specific diagnostics).

Russnes is coordinating the National Infrastructure for precision diagnostics – cancer (InPreD) implementing advanced molecular diagnostics and logistics for clinical precision medicine trials. She is also head of the National Competence Network in Precision Medicine (NorPreM) and the Norwegian Association of Molecular Pathology (NMFP).
