Dr. Azzam is an Assistant Professor at Florida International University. Diana Azzam earned her PhD in Biochemistry & Molecular Biology from the University of Miami in 2012. During her postdoctoral training at the Center for Therapeutic Innovation, Dr. Azzam implemented a patient-specific ex vivo high-throughput drug screening platform for personalized cancer therapy. She started her laboratory at Florida International University in May 2018 where her work focuses on implementing functional precision medicine approaches in clinical trials to improve treatment outcomes of cancer patients.
One study is in collaboration with Cleveland Clinic Florida, assessing the clinical utility of drug sensitivity testing and genomic profiling to treat advanced sarcomas in adult patients. The other two studies are with pediatric cancer patients at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital. Her research also investigates cancer stem cells and their role in therapy resistance and metastasis.
